A Christmas Story from Rotary A couple of weeks ago he was having a drink on a Sunday afternoon with a couple of neighbours in the local Pub. The Pub was quite quiet and so everyone noticed when a lady and gentleman walked in and went up to the bar. The lady was in conversation with the landlord for a couple of minutes and then walked across to Roger’s table and asked which one was Roger and asked if he could spare a few minutes. She then told her story: She had just visited Roger’s home but nobody was at home, so she made some enquiries from the neighbours, who thought he might well be in the Pub.

She decided that one day she would try to find him to thank him for his kindness. She wondered, if he might still be living at the same address and decided to seek him out. Hence the visit to the Lakes and the visit to Wigan. Within a few minutes she brought out of her handbag that letter which she has kept as it has always meant so much to her. We send many thousands of Shoeboxes and we never know when we might perhaps touch the life of someone in this way. The type of contents are indicated on the box top. In the case of toys, additional information as to the suitability for boy or girl, along with age group is also indicated. A card with the senders name and a photograph is also a nice thing to include. Above all, the contents should be of good quality, remembering that the recipient will be opening the box in eager anticipation, and especially with the toys for the children, quite possibly the first real gifts they have received for as very long time. Such as: make-up, toiletries, sportswear, scarf, gloves, hat, writing materials, deodorants, comb, mirror, football memorabilia, etc Toys such as ‘Matchbox’ type toy cars, small bouncy balls, jigsaws, fluffy toys, dolls, colouring books, felt tip pens, Lego, yoyo’s, bubble blow, etc. Should indicate if for a boy or girl

Household Goods such as hand soap, toothpaste and brushes, envelopes, letter paper, biro pens, etc.
Toys are especially appreciated, since these boxes can be used for birthday gifts.
This box is also good for older folk, especially if a warm scarf or a pair of gloves is included. This is given to new mothers and can include baby wipes, cotton wool buds, baby shampoo, baby oil, talc powder, bonnet, boottees and mitts, baby grow, knitted matinee coat, small soft toy or plastic  rattle. Age up to 12months We only accept items packed in our own boxes, which are designed specifically to protect the contents and stand the stacking & transport requirements by road.
