Even though the instructions say you can change the battery with the insole in the footwear, take them out when changing batteries to see what your doing. Less likely to force the battery in wrong and damage the connector.
I had one connector with a stray piece of that red rubber obstructing the contacts and not letting it fully seat. Someone who is not mechanically inclined should stick with the cheaper Originals. Top of your toes can still get really cold! I bought two pair of the original Therma Cell insoles. One for my Son & the other for my husband for hunting. They Both say they are the Best Christmas gift ever! They can stay out all day, and their feet remain toasty & comfortable, yet Not sweaty. My son has even wore his to school a couple times, just to keep his feet comfy he says.
